About Jade Allan
After an exciting and demanding decade in Sales Leadership I was determined to find the place where my inspiration and knowledge met in a purposeful way. Experience demonstrated that the best work is done when we feel appreciated, supported and trusted. When this is lacking, top talent disengages and a spiral of under-performance ensues that fails to register on quarterly earnings statements until it’s too late.
Frustrated by the inefficiencies of this ubiquitous short term fixation, I became committed to driving employee engagement and wellbeing up the corporate agenda, knowing its significance for productivity and profitability long term. I was called to pursue a Masters in Applied Positive Psychology, the study of human flourishing, in order to directly apply best practices in the workplace.
As my yoga practice developed alongside my career, I drew profound parallels. Cultivating new practices on the mat quickly transforms our experience everywhere else. Where traditional leadership training fails to engender lasting change, physical practices like ‘Mindfulness Yoga’, create new pathways in the brain, naturally developing emotional intelligence, inhibiting the stress response and creating space for creativity and innovation to thrive.
In this state we become engaged: with our work, our goals and our lives.
Here is where my inspiration and knowledge meet. Thank you for joining me.
Shortly after leaving my last office job, I was introduced to The Demartini Method® in London which reinforced my belief that if we can expand our thinking, we can expand our potential. Developed by Dr. John Demartini, this scientific process balances perceptions and emotions and is being used professionally by many psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, educators, consultants and health professionals across the world. Its applications include reducing stress, resolving conflict and creating new perspectives and paradigms for life. Seeing firsthand the effect it had in all areas of my own life, I was inspired to complete the facilitator training programme in Houston to be a part of spreading awareness of the method globally.
In yoga I was greatly supported in my journey by the magnificent Wenche Krag Beard who taught me to live fearlessly and was pivotal in my decision to leave my job, finding the strength to remove the barriers obstructing my deeper purpose. Wenche is the Founder and Director of the Yoga-Life Studio in Eastbourne, UK and runs amazing retreats in exotic locations! The philosophy of Strala Yoga, New York, resonated with me for a number of years and I was honoured to train with the founders, Tara Stiles and Mike Taylor on their Intensive Training at Sports Club LA in San Francisco. It’s no surprise that Tara has a huge global following. She builds strength and flexibility in the body and mind with an overwhelming sense of fun and ease. Emphasising moving over posing, she reminds us that the real benefits of yoga come when we use our whole lives to practice following our own rules. “Nailing a pose doesn’t create a capable life. There are no health benefits to jumping into a handstand. There are tremendous benefits to connecting with and listening to your intuition.” There really are no teachers or gurus that can help you be more you.
In leadership, I was strongly influenced by the collaborative and inspiring workplace created by Ann Reilly at Yahoo! in Barcelona. She showed me how it felt to be trusted to find my own way and intuitively understood how to connect her employees’ values to their jobs for lasting engagement. The first person to have kept an adult me in one place for five years, she’s a great mentor, particularly for young female leaders and her management style inspires many.
The ideas contained here have been in my head for way too long and I owe huge gratitude to Blake Mistich for extracting them so skillfully. His stunning photography and effortless web design were critical but his encouragement and belief in me are priceless.
Finally, I am forever grateful to the more challenging people I have worked with, offering me insights and opportunities for growth at every turn.
“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
